There are several types of mold you can have in your house and only a mold expert will be able to spot this problem and offer you solutions. Whether you are planning to buy property, or you already have a house, testing it for mold is not optional.

There are many types of mold (37 kinds that are usually found in houses) with different classes of health hazards, based on the health problems they can produce.

  • Hazard Class C

The mold types in this class do not pose a health danger, but they can ruin your house and put a financial stress on your shoulders. Chaetomium globosum and Ulocladium botrytis are types of mold that can be found in kitchen and bathrooms while Wallemia sebi is a fungus that resides in carpets and mattresses. These kinds of mold can cause allergies, but they are not known to be life-threatening. However, a mold inspection will help you detect them and get rid of them before they ruin your beautiful house.

  • Hazard Class B

The fungi in hazard class B are known to cause allergic reactions and mild to severe respiratory problems. They can pose a severe danger especially to children and seniors who have weaker immune systems. For example, Cladosporium cladosporioides is known to trigger asthma and can be found in your kitchen or bathroom. Trichoderma spp and Scopulariopsis spp can be found on your wallpapers and, along with other class B types of mold can result in eye irritations, runny nose symptoms, sore throat or rashes.

  • Hazard Class A

The fungi and mold types in class A are especially hazardous to health. They can pose severe health issues and require immediate attention. Living in a house where class A mold types exist is the equivalent of sleeping with a time bomb in the room. Some of the molds in class A are Aspergillus fumigatus, which can be found in the kitchen, bathroom or air conditioning systems, Fusarium spp and Stachybotrys chartarum (the black mold), found on the wallpapers, and Aspergillus versicolour, usually seen in basements, mattresses or carpets. These types of mold are extremely dangerous. Aspergillus can cause an inflammation of the lungs (hypersensitivity pneumonitis), Fusarium can result in respiratory infections while the black mold produces toxic compounds that can damage your immune system and even alter your state of mind.
